Functional ectopic intrathoracic goitres

Abstract

Functional ectopic intrathoracic goiters are rate. A case is presented which manifested 15 years after the removal of the orthotopic (cervical) thyroid gland. For a better appreciation of the subject the difference between functional intrathoracic goiters of hetertopic thyroid tissue origin and other forms of mediastinal goitrous masses is emphasized.
