Abstract

The Regional Maritime University is a regional institution established as a result of the signing of an instrument of transfer of the Ghana Nautical College between the Government of Ghana and the Ministerial Conference of West and Central African States on Maritime Transport (MINCOMAR), now known as the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA). By this agreement the Ghana Nautical College came under the ownership of five (5) Anglophone West and Central African States, namely: Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. In a significanttransformation the college was upgraded in 1983 to the Regional Maritime Academy and later in 2007 to the Regional Maritime University. This article endeavours to present the evolution of the Ghana Nautical College to become the Regional Maritime Academy and now the Regional Maritime University.
