Abstract

Cultural resources management (CRM) as a function of museums

A number of institutions are involved in CRM. Some of these have to comply herewith due to legislative requirements. These include statutory institutions such as the South African Heritage Resources Agency and the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. Other institutions such as the Human Sciences Research Council, educational institutions and the community are indirectly involved. The article discusses the involvement of all these institutions in CRM. Special attention is given to the role museums play. By looking at the different functions of museums, it is argued that CRM is indeed a main function of museums.

'n Verskeidenheid instansies is by KHB betrokke.
