Abstract
The concept hartbeeshuis
In this study the current principal schools of thought or theories in cultural-historical literature relating to the interpretation of the concept hartbeeshuis are critically analysed and compared. Thereafter contemporary references concerning the characteristics of the hartbeeshuis are given, as well as subsequent oral and written accounts; taking these into consideration, the concept hartbeeshuis is reconsidered and adapted
In hierdie studie word die bestaande hoofdenkrigtings of -teorieë in die kultuurgeskiedskrywing wat met die verklaring van die begrip hartbeeshuis verband hou, krities ontleed en vergelyk. Dit word gevolg deur tydgenootlike verwysings na die aard van die hartbeeshuis, asook latere mondelinge en skriftelike getuienis, na aanleiding waarvan die begrip hartbeeshuis heroorweeg en aangepas word.
