Abstract
During the past 10 years I have drawn attention on a number of occasions to the basic role of thyroid insufficiency in the causation of essential hypertension. In the course of my work on this problem I have become increasingly aware of the possibility that thyroid insufficiency, in a slightly different context, is playing an equally important part in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
