Grasshopper (<i>Phymateus leprosus</i> Fabr.) poisoning in a Bantu child

Abstract

On 5 October 1961 I received from Dr. W. E. Laufer, Medical Superintendent, Mahamba Methodist Hospital, Swaziland, a grasshopper under cover of his letter dated 2 October. As this is, to my knowledge, the first definite case of grasshopper poisoning in Southern Africa, I am quoting Dr. Laufer· 'case history' in full:
