Inhibition of cancer cell stickiness by the blocking of platelet aggregation

H. Gastpar

Abstract

The mechanisms of the early stage of metastasis formation by blood-borne cancer cells is described. Abnormal platelet aggregation, alteration of coagulation and fibrinolysis play an important part. The reducing effect on cancer cell stickiness of dipyridamole, some of its derivative compounds and two other vasodilating agents were investigated in animals. A clinical trial was started 15 months ago with the dipyridamole compound RA 233 in patients with sarcoma of the head and neck region.
