The carpal tunnel syndrome

Martin Singer

Abstract

In recent years the carpal-tunnel syndrome has been established as a definite clinical entity. In 1947 Brain et al. described 6 cases and in 1953 Kremer et al reported 40 cases. These outstanding papers clarified the clinical picture and described the surgical treatinent required to obtain relief from the distressing symptoms. In this paper a further 13 patients in whom 19 median nerves were involved are described. These include 2 Cape Coloured females and 1 European male. Of the 19 median nerves 16 were decompressed by operation.
