Abstract

Since the formation of the Commonwealth of Nations in 1949, there have  been concerted efforts, built on the tapestry of mutual understanding and „crown allegiance‟ of members nations to the Queen of England, as the head of organizations since 1952. From 1965, several declarations have emanated to pursue common principles and values as goals of the organization with the loudest declaration stemming from 1971 in Singapore, when a charter was born as a centripetal force, to draw attention of members nations to certain targets and goals which include economic development, promotion of peace, democracy and good governance, rule of law, social development and actions to tackle other emerging challenges. This paper seeks to illuminate and articulate the living memories as drawn from the aims and objectives of the organization and the extent to which they have been realized.
