Abstract

Kombucha, a traditional beverage mushroom containing a symbiotic bacteria, is prepared with sweetened tea of (Theaceae) and is often drank in many parts of the world. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of this beverage on cardiovascular system of rodents, rat and rabbit. Therefore, we measured the blood pressure of the rabbit, and the frequency and the amplitude of heart beat of the rat. On an isolated heart of rat, kombucha induced a cardio-depressive effect, meaning a negative inotropic and chronotropic effects. The inhibitory concentration 50% was 15mg/ml. kombucha induced a dose dependent reduction in blood pressure followed by a non dose dependent increase in blood pressure in the range 50- 1800mg/kg.Above 1800mg/kg we noticed a lower decrease of the blood pressure. The low blood pressure effect of kombucha is inhibited by Acetylcholine effect. Atropine partially inhibited the negative inotopic effect of kombucha. And kombucha partially inhibited the catalytic activity of acetylcholinesterase.
