Abstract

Anaesthesia for adenoidectomy may be challenging to the anaesthetist because of shared airway. The standard airway device for adenoidectomy is endotracheal intubation. The usage of Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA)[Classic and Flexible] has been described as an alternative airway with some researchers suggesting it might be superior to endotracheal intubation in some aspects. We described a case of adenoidectomy performed with the use of a Classic LMA to administer anaesthesia after failed multiple attempts with endotracheal intubation in a 22-month old child. The aim of the case report is to demonstrate the usefulness of laryngeal mask airway in a difficult paediatric airway for adenoidectomy in a resource limited environment.
