Patterns of absolute and relative pro-poor growth in Cameroon: 2001-2007¹

Abstract

This research explained the pattern of absolute and relative pro-poor growth in Cameroon. The 2001 and 2007 Cameroon household consumption surveys were used to generate the results. Results indicated that pro-poor growth for food, non-food and total expenditures were marginal. Our findings should provide input to policy debate aimed at fostering pro-poor growth and redistributive policies in the context of designing poverty alleviation  strategies, the enhancement of participatory approaches in the development of poverty strategies and the encouragement of broad-based pro-poor growth strategies that will foster the acquisition of pertinent capabilities by poor households.
