Epidemiology of Onchocerca raillettie in donkeys at Tumbool City and its influence on some serum constituents

Abstract

In this study, 50 donkeys of both sexes were examined for diagnosis of onchocercosis in Tumbool city, Gezira State-Sudan. The animals were examined in Tumbool Veterinary Hospital and Tumbool‘s livestock market during September to October 2010. Out of 50 donkeys examined, 17(34%) were found positive for microfilaria in skin samples without sex influence in infection rate. whereas, a significant increase (P<0.05) among old animals was recorded. The effects of the infection on serum total proteins, albumin, glucose and Cholesterol were investigated.
