Abstract

The influence of mixtures of cassava peel and Albizia lebbeck hay on feed intake, digestibility and voluntary water intake were evaluated in a digestibility study involving 25 West African Dwarf grower goats (4.95±0.23kg). There were five diets comprising unsupplemented cassava peel, 27, 55 and 82 % replacements with Albizia hay, and whole Albizia hay. The sole cassava peel and the Albizia hay served as controls. Parameters assessed were dry matter intake (DMI), voluntary water intake (VWI), dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) digestibility. Dry Matter Intake (g/d) was higher (P< 0.05) at cassava Albizia mixture of 73:27. Voluntary water intake increased (P<0.05) at 27% inclusion of Albizia lebbeck hay and lower values in sole cassava peel and sole Albizia lebbeck hay. The results showed that WAD grower goats kept on cassava/Albizia lebbeck had higher DM and voluntary water intake at 73:27.
