Abstract

In this study, serum samples were collected from 100 patient with liver function disorder in Borno State. These samples were assayed for HAV, HEV and HBV using test strips kit. Out of the 100 sample tested, 7(7.0%) were positive for HAV, 9 (9.0%) for HBV and 0 (0.0%) for HEV. Sex Distribution for HAV, HBV and HEV amongĀ  patients with liver function disorder attending UMTH indicate higher prevalence of Hepatitis A in male than in female and higher prevalence of Hepatitis B in female than in male. Age distribution for HAV, HBV and HEV among patients with liver function disorder attending UMTH revealed that patients within the age of 41-51 have the highest rate of HAV with 3% (3 of 100) and patients within the age groups of 30-40 and 41-51 had the highest rate of HBV with 3 (3.0%) each. However, those between the age of 74-84 years had the least infection rate with 0 (0.0%) in all. Most of the infected patients were within the age of 41-51 years. Therefore, vaccination against hepatitis should be part of comprehensive plan for prevention and control of viral hepatitis.
