Engineering youth empowerment and poverty eradication through technology-based policies for sustainable development

G Iheanacho

Abstract

The much orchestrated fight to achieve poverty eradication and the economic empowerment of the youth appears to be pandering to the comical as the reality of the frustrations and anger of the youth over their poverty stricken plight stares the nation in the face. This is obvious considering the restiveness and massive dislocation of the social values and structures by the youth in a bid to register their disappointment over the state of affairs as they concern them. The efforts of the government are well meaning but the programmes appear inadequate. Hence, this paper advocates a more critical redress of such programmes with greater emphasis for higher level technology to advance them to relevance and in tune with current and fashionable skills and pursuits that satisfy the aspirations and expectations of the youth so that they will be inclined to get involved in such programmes in order that the objective of youth empowerment and poverty eradication would be achieved.
