Perspectives and Trends of Tracking among Students' Abilities on Academic

Abstract

This paper explores different interpretations of tracking in relation to students ‘abilities and academic competence. As a position paper it tries to empower the teachers on the need to apply tracking among students in order to maximize their potentials even within the already and existed legal framework. It however stated the advantages and disadvantages of the tracking system, and not oversight the corollary to the system in order to reduce stigmatization among the learners of heterogeneous status. Apart from that paper put across diverse perspectives of tracking by comparing some developing countries to the developed ones, thus making the universal application of the concept known to the stakeholders towards improving learning on one hand, and facilitate the work for the teachers on the other hand. All these put side by side shows the extent to which wastage in educational set up could be eradicated from micro to macro levels of educational system. These were corroborated with some scholars’ position and contra-position to tracking of students ‘abilities towards successful learning outcome.
