Gangrène gazeuse de jambe secondaire à une morsure de serpent : une observation pédiatrique Gas gangrene of the Leg secondary to a snake bite: a pediatric case report

Abstract

Envenomation in children can be responsible for serious local and systemic complications such as gas gangrene, which is an extreme emergency. Prevention is imperative through rapid and appropriate management of snake bites. We report the case of a child aged 14, admitted to the emergency service for necrosis of the foot and right leg that occurred 15 days after a snake bite. The bite occurred during field work and was initially taken care of in a traditional way with the notion of tourniquet of the bitten member. The surgical treatment consisted in an open stump transfemoral amputation with a favorable outcome.

L’envenimation chez les enfants peut être responsable de graves complications locales et systémiques telle que la gangrène gazeuse, qui est une urgence extrême. La prévention est impérative par une gestion rapide et appropriée des piqûres de serpents. Nous rapportons le cas d’un enfant de 14 ans, admis aux urgences pour nécrose du pied et de la jambe droite survenue 15 jours après une morsure de serpent. La morsure s’est produite lors des travaux champêtres et initialement prise en charge de manière traditionnelle avec la notion de garrottage du membre mordu. Le geste était une amputation transfémorale à moignon ouvert avec une suite favorable.
