AC Ukwueze

Abstract

The efficacy of the Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy in addressing the problem of youth restiveness and terrorism in Nigeria was determined by this study through quasiexperimental research design. The participants were thirty six Senior Secondary School students in their second year (SS 2) from an intact class from the Command Secondary School, Abakaliki, south east Nigeria. There were two levels of treatment. An instrument called Rational Emotive Inventory (REI) was constructed, validated and used for data collection. The lone research question of the study was answered using descriptive statistics while the two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 per cent level of significance using t-test statistics. There was a significant effect of the Rational Emotive Therapy on the experimental group unlike the control group that merely received placebo. The study recommended the use of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy in secondary schools in order to work on the mindsets of students and nip the cases of youth restiveness and terrorism among Nigerians at the bud.
