Abstract

Women participation in community development is an important element and a sure way to enhance development of the communities in Nigeria. However, women participation is hindered by the factors identified in the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, the research questionnaire titled Women Participation in Community Development Inventory (WPCDI) was used. Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred women participants from Ilorin west local government while one hundred women participants were randomly selected also from Ilorin south local government. The test retest method of assessing the reliability of the data was used at a reliability coefficient of 0.87. There is no significant difference in the factors affecting women participation in community development projects in Ilorin west and south local government areas based on marital status (t{198} = 1.221, p>0.05), there is no significant difference in factors affecting women participation in community development based on religion (F {3, 196} = 1.626, p>0.05), there is no significant difference in the factors affecting women participation in community development projects in Ilorin west and south local government areas based on occupation (F {2, 197} = 1.818, p>0.05). It is therefore recommended that there should be proper societal orientation on the role women should play in development of their communities. Thus, they should not only be involved in domestic affairs of their homes but they should be encouraged in the proper execution and implementation of community development projects.
