Abstract

This paper studied professional statues of librarians in relation to the challenges of  using ICTs in provision of information services in the library. On this, competencies of librarians, challenges of librarians to use ICTs, and challenges of professional practice of librarians in academic libraries were studied. 82% of the librarians responded to the questionnaire. Analytically, a significant mean (X) of 3.06 were derived showing that,  the statements made are accepted. This paper therefore recommended a way forward to ameliorate the challenges, and concluded that for librarians to live up to their   professional statues, they need to work in ICT induced environment, as such they need to be proficiently skilled on new technologies, and also, be competent in information  handlings.
