Abstract

The aim of the paper is to identify challenges associated with the cataloguing of e resources in some selected university libraries in south –south Nigeria. The descriptive survey design involving the use of questionnaire as the research instrument was adopted. The population comprised of cataloguers in five selected university libraries from south-south, Nigeria. Data generated were analyzed using frequency tables, and percentages. It was found that, the major factors affecting cataloguing of e-resources is lack of ICT skill on the part of cataloguers, majority of the respondents have never attended conferences and workshops to improve themselves on the job, majority of the respondents lack skills for online cataloguing, and majority of the respondents acquired skills for cataloguing through attendance of conferences and workshops. It was also recommended that all the cataloguers should be encouraged to acquire skills related to their job on regular basis and this should be done by library management to ensure that they acquire all the necessary skills needed for the cataloguing of e-resources. The attendance of seminars / conference, workshops should be made compulsory for all the cataloguers to be in attendance at any point in time, as this will enable them to acquire all the necessary skills they need in carrying out their daily routine.
