Marketing Knowledge And Disposition Of Librarians In Nigerian Institute Of Advanced Legal Studies And University Of Lagos Libraries

Abstract

As librarians, we should be actively marketing and promoting our library services. The paper aims to demystify mark eting for librarians. It reflects on the need and use of marketing knowledge in the effective provision of library products and services by librarians in Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and University of Lagos libraries. Relevant literature on an overview of marketing, need for marketing, marketing functions which includes market research, plan, objectives and strategies, as well as promotion were reviewed. The survey method of research was used and two different survey techniques were employe d. They are questionnaire and interview. Analysis of data was done using the frequency distribution tables. From the statistical results, the findings revealed that:

· Most of the librarians are qualified with basic knowledge of librarianship
· Majority of librarians have marketing knowledge
· Few librarians are disposed to market their library products and services
· There is no previous record of marketing of library products and services in Nigeria Institute of
Advanced Legal Studies Library.
Finally, recommendations were provided.
