Effect of information sharing on research and teaching activities of academic scientists in federal universities in North East Nigeria

Abstract

This study was designed to determine the effect of Information sharing on research and teaching activities of Academic Scientists in Federal Universities in the North- East Nigeria. Investigation was done on the activities of information sharing and the effect of information sharing on teaching and research activities. Survey research design was used for this study are the population comprised of all academic scientists of the three universities. The population of the academic scientists in the three universities was 275and the entire population was used for the study. One research question and two hypotheses were formulated to address the three objectives of the study. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency counts, percentages) and chi-square statistical tool was used to test hypotheses. Major findings show that the academic scientists in federal universities in the north eastern Nigeria usually share only information on completed research with colleagues. However they hoard information about on-going research to their colleagues. Information sharing has significant impact on the research and teaching activities of the academic scientists in federal universities in the north eastern Nigeria.
