Abstract

The study investigates the perceptions of undergraduates on the influence of usage of internet facilities on their academic performances. A review of relevant literature led to the development of an instrument called Federal University Lokoja Internet Usage and Academic Performance(FULIU-AP). A survey was carried out to obtain relevant data. The respondents were final year students of the faculty of science, Federal University, Lokoja. The data were subjected to various statistical analysis and modelling. The findings indicate that though most of the students perceived that internet usage has positive influence on academic performance, no significant effect of time spent using the internet on cumulative grade point average (CGPA) was detected. However, the reason and motivation for using the internet was found to have significant effect on CGPA. A theorized model for predicting CGPA using internet usage indicators and previous performance was further proposed. The model was found to fit the data adequately.
