Teaching is a process of informing or educating a learner. It entails equipping the learner with new  knowledge to facilitate learner’s skills and performance. Teaching is concerned with passing on knowledge value and values to learners to prepare them to be useful to themselves and to the society. A teacher is trained to acquire skills of teaching and a particular aspect of knowledge. The learners are often tested to ascertain what they have learnt. Hence, the evaluation of teaching skills displayed by student – teachers during practical teaching. Two research  questions guided the study and the instrument is teacher’s assessment format (TAF) containing all the skills of teaching and options on various levels of extent. The design for the study is survey and the respondents are lectures, who are supervisors of student – teachers. The data collected were analyzed using mean  scores. The results of data analysis showed that student – teachers acquired and displayed most of the  teaching skills. They clearly stated the objectives with cognitive (3.21) and affective domain (2.60), for  instance. The student – teachers did not state objectives in psychomotor domains (2.47) and did not vary their teaching materials (2.43). It is recommended that teachers should be motivated and retrained, at  least once a year, to always remind them of the teaching skills they acquired while in training, for improved academic performance.
