A brief look at ewe from TGG and RRG perspectives.

Abstract

This article is a brief description of how Ewe language structure can be handled by both Transformational generative grammar, also known as TGG and Role and reference grammar, also called RRG for short.
The older theory TGG has been around for quite a while and much of the newer approaches to syntactic analysis remain unknown or not very popular on this part of the globe; Togo, Africa. An insight into the
newer approaches is a step towards improving syntactic analysis on a cross linguistic basis. With the multitude of languages present in Togo (not to mention the whole African continent), there is need to account for these languages in terms of their own language structures. The purpose of this article therefore, is to increase the syntactic tools at the disposition of especially francophone students studying linguistics in order to better account for the languages they analyze

Le présent article est une brève description de la langue Ewe sur la base de deux théories : « Transformational Generative Grammar », appelée aussi TGG et la « Role and Reference Grammar » connue comme la RRG. La plus ancienne théorie TGG a prévalu pendant un certain temps alors qu’une bonne partie des nouvelles approches est demeure@e inconnue ou peu connue et que leur connaissance
constitue un progrès dans l’analyse syntaxique des langues. Face a$ une multitude de langues au Togo (sans parler du continent africain tout entier), il est indispensable d’étudier les différentes dimensions
structurelles de ces langues. L’objectif de cet article est donc d’accroître les instruments syntaxiques à$ la disposition des étudiants francophones en linguistique en particulier afin de leur permettre d’avoir une meilleure approche des langues qu’ils analysent.
