Leadership Styles of Husbands in Homes: Implications for Family Stability

M Ogechiesere

Abstract

Every home should have a leader. The stream of leadership flows from God to the husband, to the wife and to the children. Inappropriate application of leadership can mar the beauty of the home life leading to family instability and disintegration. In this paper an attempt is made at highlighting styles of leadership (Laissez-faire, Autocratic and Democratic) in child training practices and implications of these leadership styles for family stability. A family has the greatest chance of staying together when all the members work toward achieving its goals. Since leadership involves the exercise of influence by one person over others, the quality of leadership exhibited by the head of the family is a critical determinant of family stability.
