Abstract

This paper assessed the socio-emotional intelligence status (SEIS) of some in-school pre-adolescents in selected Nigerian primary and junior secondary schools .This is with a view to making concerned people understand and appreciate the perennial reports of poor socio-emotional responses of Nigerian adolescents despite the efforts to correct and stabilize same. The results show low scores on the construct by the sample indicating a poor level of awareness of the construct of socio-emotional intelligence among the population. This finding was discussed in relation to what is needful for change at the school level, namely the development of the appropriate curriculum and the accompanying modules, exercises and assignments through which the school counselors would be able to make the sample aware ,sensitive and responsive to the construct of socio emotional intelligence in their lives and style of living it.
