Abstract

Neurologic symptoms can be observed in patients with either acute or chronic liver failure. This review describes the clinical features of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) associated with acute liver failure or liver cirrhosis,
diagnostic approaches, and current therapeutic concepts. A striking feature of HE is the reversibility of symptoms. In addition, it gives a short overview of current knowledge about hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection-associated
cognitive decline
