Implementing Non-formal, Skills and Apprenticeship Training Programme of the Universal Basic Education (UBE): The Itole of Existing Technological Institutions in Nigeria

Abstract

The paper discusses both the existing indigenous  technological and modern institlltions and their importance in the implementation of the apprenticeship aspect of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) progrmme. The indigenous technological institlltions include potlery, spinning and weaving, leather work, sculpture, tying and dying, Carving (etc.) locatiors and centres while the modern institlilions include among others the Technological Incubation Centres such as the Leather Research Inslitllte (Zaria) the Federal Instilute of Industrial Research. (Oshodi-Lgos) and so on and so forth. It is argued that Ihe services of these inslillliions are importanl in the UBE programme implemenlalion activities.
