Abstract

In the design of Rotors, the identification of critical speed is essential for the smooth operation of machines and safety. In this paper, the effect of different types of support conditions and types of bearings on the critical
frequency, of Rotors is investigated. Including gyroscopic damping and operational speed dependent bearings that varies the system natural frequency. The paper discusses the derivation of the equation of motion
of the rotor bearing system, incorporpting the bearing type, location of support and gyroscopic moment. The equation is then solved using the finite element Matlab code. Finite Element Analysis of Rotors (FEAR). Three
cases of rotor bearing assembly are presented and the dependence of the natural frequency on the operation speed is shown on Campbell diagrams.
