Music, Language and the Universal implication of Meaning

E Ibekwe

Abstract

Music is an art which expresses human behaviour. Language is as well a medium of expression or communication. Both are very essential for the proper functioning of man; both individually and collectively. They constitute the bulk of societal norms and values. This paper examines the two phenomena from different definitive points of view, discusses the concept of music as a universal language; the relationship between language and music, the implications of surrogate languages and problems of language in music because of cultural disparity.
