  • IS Abdulraheem Department of Epidemiology & Community Health, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria

This article reviewed the general communication and counseling needs of people living with AIDS (PLWA) and some of the problems especially expressed by those living with AIDS. The purpose of this article is to provide detailed information about counselling issues in HIV/AIDS. Numerous studies suggest that effective counselling assists people to make informed decisions, cope better with their health condition, lead more positive lives and prevent further transmission of HIV. HIV/AIDS counseling is provided by trained counsellors, though health workers and caregivers are often in a position to provide necessary counselling, advice and support.
