Information and communication technology and bank performance: the case of Nigerian commercial banks.

Abstract

Different sectors of world economies are rapidly being affected by improved
technology. Banking sector is also witnessing the trend in Nigeria. Information and communication Technology is said to have impacted the banking sector massively as the banks in Nigeria introduce products that would help improve their efficiency. The heavy investment in this area has led people into questioning the associated gains. This paper therefore, investigates the impact of these new technologies on the performance of the Nigerian banks for the period 1970 to 2008, using the t-ratio (difference between means) and found that the introduction of information technology has positively impacted on the performance of the banks.
