The Governance Deficit, Underdevelopment and the Leadership Crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Abstract

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing governance, democracy and development challenges. Political leadership plays a central role in sustaining these problems, and the new government regards the reconstruction of political governance as a means to advance the democratic and development needs and interests of the Congolese people. The reconstruction of the DRC state is central to the process of transforming political governance to ensure democratic and development needs and interests of the country and its people. This article analyses the central
role played by political leadership in the structural challenges faced by the DRC to achieve popular governance, democracy and development. It contributes towards the understanding of the centrality of political leadership as the main obstacle to the achievement of this national objective
