SO Babatunde

Abstract

Sports have not been regarded fully as an academic activity in Nigerian Universities culturally. The thrust of this paper was the examination of selected administrative tools for sports culture in Nigerian Universities. Matters discussed in the study encompassed culture in relation to sports participation, facilities, equipment and supplies; provision of living accommodations for students on their campuses; availability of adept sports personnel; funding; time tables and formulation of policy making it mandatory for students to participate in sports. To successfully foster sports culture in the Nigerian universities, the authorities concerned must accept sports as an invaluable part of academic culture so that prompt attention could be given sports in order to fulfill the public expectation of producing top-level sportsmen and women like other universities in developed countries.
