Nursing care of a traumatized patient

Abstract

This paper presents and discusses the data on trauma cases received at the Accident and Emergency Unit of U C.H Ibadan within a period of six months in year 2005 and the role of nurses in the care of these patients.
Attention was also drawn to the incidents of trauma cases worldwide as presented by World Health Organization in 2004. Suggestions were made to improve on the management of trauma patients in hospitals while the team approach in the care of traumatized patients was advocated.
This paper also highlights the importance of preparation for discharge and rehabilitations needed for them to continue their vocations thereafter.
