COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF UREA AND BOVINE AND POUL TRY WASTE IN THE FERTILIZATION OF OIL PALM AT THE JUVENILE STAGE
Abstract
The constant increase in the cost of chemical fertilizers on the market is a barrier to their use by small producers. This study aims to highlight the interest in using bovine and poultry waste in the fertilization of oil palm at the juvenile stage to the detriment of chemical fertilizers, particularly urea. To do this, a comparative study involved urea, laying hen manure and bovine manure individually evaluated on growth parameters such as the number of leaves produced, the length of the longest leaf and the diameter at the collar of the oil palm at the juvenile stage. At the pre-nursery stage, the results showed that, regardless of the growth parameter studied, the values expressed by the use of bovine manure and laying hen manure were statistically similar but higher than those generated by the use of urea. In the nursery, the three fertilizers displayed statistically identical values in terms of the number of leaves and the diameter at the collar. On the other hand, in terms of the length of the longest leaf, the values displayed by the use of bovine manure and that of laying hen manure were statistically identical but higher than those presented by the use of urea. The use of poultry waste and that of bovine waste therefore contribute to the development of the oil palm at the juvenile stages and, thus, can be an alternative to chemical fertilization of plants.
