Social media and security concerns in post-COVID-19 Anambra State

Abstract

Social Media are online-based tools and services connecting people and enabling interactions with each other over the internet. The work titled “Social media and security Concerns in post-Covid-19 Anambra State is a survey aimed at investigating the connection between social media and insecurity in Anambra state. A stratified random sampling technique was used to sample three hundred (300) public servants in Anambra state. The mean statistics was used to analyze the data collected. The findings of the study showed that Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram, YouTube, and Yahoo Messenger are some of the social media networks that are used to promote insecurity in Nigeria. It was also discovered that terrorist groups, criminal elements, and Boko Haram leaders, all use propagandas, fake news, rumours and false information in social media. The paper submitted that to check the promotion of insecurity in social media, there should be a collaboration between the government and social media owners to make laws and policies to control social media abuse.
