Potential Geological Impact of Mining, Construction, Water Resources, Agriculture and Environmental Management on Economic Development of Nigeria: A Review
Abstract
This paper was a critical review of the influence of potential geological activities of mining, construction, water resources, agriculture and environmental management on the economic development of Nigeria by harvesting data from as off-line library and online sources such as ResearchGate, science-direct and Google scholar. The review showed that with the help of Geological knowledge applied in areas such as mining, environmental management, oil and gas drilling, geothermal energy, and hydrogeology, an increase in Nigeria’s sustainable economic development is feasible. A case study approach highlights how engineering geology assist in delivery the UN sustainable development goals through mitigating natural hazards, supporting infrastructural development, and enhancing sustainable practices. From this paper it was observed that geology is not only important to Nigeria’s economic growth but also essential in promoting innovation, and long-term sustainable growth in Nigeria.
