Le pouvoir de l’image dans l’album de jeunesse : L’exemple de Max et les Maximonstres de Maurice Sendak

Abstract

Le présent article se penche sur l’ancrage idéologico-philosophique de l’album de jeunesse. L’hypothèse, ici, est que derrière les illustrations caractérisant ce type de récit enfantin se cache de dimensions d’ordre idéologique et philosophique. En se focalisant sur l’œuvre de Sendak « Max et Maximonstres », notre travail, qui s’appuie principalement sur la sémiotique de l’image, tente d’analyser
deux concepts majeurs : l’autorité, en tant notion idéologique visant à régler la relation fils-mère ; et l’imagination, comme forme de libération de l’esprit enfantin.

English title: Article The power of images in children's books: The example of Maurice Sendak's Max and the Maximonsters

This article looks at the ideological-philosophical roots of the children's book. The hypothesis here is that behind the illustrations characterizing this type of children's story lie ideological and philosophical dimensions. Focusing on Sendak's “Max et Maximonstres”, our work, which draws primarily on the semiotics of the image, attempts to analyze two major concepts: authority, as an ideological notion aimed at regulating the son-mother relationship; and imagination, as a form of liberation for the child's mind.
