Procurement Practice and Performance of Chemical Product Manufacturing Firms in Enugu State

Abstract

The study evaluated relationship between Procurement Practice and performance of chemical product manufacturing firms in Enugu state. The specific objectives are to: Examine relationship between product strategic Sourcing and quality product; and ascertain relationship between supply relationship management and cost minimization of chemical product manufacturing firms in Enugu state. The study used the descriptive survey design approach. The primary source of data was the questionnaire. A total population of 277 staff was used. 254staff returned the questionnaire and accurately filled. Data were presented and analyzed and the hypotheses were tested using Z – test. The findings indicated: Product Strategic Sourcing had significant positive relationship with quality of product Z (8.467,p<.05) and Supply relationship management had significant positive relationship with cost minimization of chemical manufacturing firms in Enugu state as reported in the probability value of Z (10.179,p<.05). The study concluded that product strategic sourcing and supply relationship management had significant positive relationship with quality of products and cost minimization of chemical manufacturing firms in Enugu state. The study recommended among others that the product strategic sourcing should be implemented in the organizations for well-informed and efficient sourcing strategies, they are more likely to enhance the quality of their products, thereby meeting customer expectations and achieving competitive advantage.
