The action-oriented perspective in language teaching: an innovative didactic approach

Abstract

The communicative approach focuses on verbal interaction and language skills in often artificial contexts, which limits learners to a theoretical use of the language. It does not adequately prepare students to perform real and concrete tasks where language skills need to be integrated with other social and practical skills. In contrast, the action-oriented perspective,  proposed by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), overcomes these limitations by viewing learners as social actors who use the language to accomplish tasks in authentic situations, making learning more relevant and practical.
