Abstract

Studies of blood groups distributions in various populations have been done, revealing great variations among the various study groups. We studied the ABO and Rhesus blood groups distributions among the Hausa ethnic group in Dan barre village in Kano state of Nigeria. Two thousand seven hundred and twenty (2720) volunteers were studied. Each sample of blood was put on a clear white tile containing anti sera A, B and D in differently demarcated areas. The tile was rotated gently and observed for agglutination after two minutes. Results show blood group O as the most frequent (49.27%). Others are A, 23.5%; B, 22.7% and AB, 4.41%. Rhesus positivity is 94.88%. The pattern of distribution of ABO and Rhesus Blood group systems corroborates the already reported patterns in many Nigeria populations.
