Locus of control and peer pressure among secondary school students in Nigeria

Abstract

The issues revolving around peer pressure influence among secondary school students had remain dominant in discussion relating to attitude and behavious of students. Therefore, there is need to continue to investigate factors that determine and dictate the pace of peer pressure among students in secondary schools with the view to come up with recommendations relating to peer pressure influence. This study, therefore, addressed the concept of locus of control and peer pressure among secondary school students in Nigeria. The study adopted the qualitative approach of data collection which involved the content analysis of studies and write-ups on locus of control and peer pressure among secondary school students in Nigeria. The study revealed locus of control as a very important factor that determines the pace of peer pressure among secondary school students in Nigeria. The study recommended the need for parents and teachers to encourage students to develop their internal locus of control to
enable them resist negative peer influence from their peers.
