The imperative of a new social contract through the technology of mind

Nelson Udoka Ukwamedua

Abstract

The progress of neuro/computer science makes it clear that sometime during the 21st century, man as a technology-driven being will master the technologies of mind and of life. Man will build machines more intelligent than man and modify human brains and  bodies to increase intelligence. This scientific cum technologically advanced man exists thanks to a social contract that is based on certain assumptions that are rarely questioned. However, this paper argues that the technologies of mind and life will invalidate these assumptions and inevitably change this social contract fundamentally. Hence, the need for man to prepare for these new technologies.
