Correlating haematological malignancies with radio-diagnostic findings in an African setting

Abstract

Objective: To determine the radiological diagnostic findings in patients with haematological malignancies and its relative function in total patient management in an African setting. Materials: A prospective study correlating radiographic and ultrasound image findings in adult patients with confirmed haematological malignancies at a tertiary hospital in West Africa between July 2004 and June 2007 was conducted. Setting: University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin Nigeria. Method: The patients were examined by the authors; histo-pathological and haematological diagnosis was made with radio-diagnostic imaging conducted. The indications for imaging included initial staging of disease and monitoring of treatment outcome. In all the patients consent was obtained, and ethical consent was obtained in line with the centre guideline
