School ’s technical and personnel preparedness for the implementation of entrepreneurship education in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State

Abstract

The study investigated school’s technical and personnel preparedness for the implementation of entrepreneurship education in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. Two objectives, two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The design of the study was descriptive survey design, population was 6174 male and female teachers in the 311 public senior secondary schools in Rivers state and sample was 376 male and female teachers (male 176, female 200), determined using Taro Yamane Mathematical Technique while the stratified random sampling technique was adopted. The instrument for the study was questionnaire, titled ‘School’s Technical and Personnel Preparedness for the Implementation of Entrepreneurship Education Questionnaire ‘(STPPIEEQ) with reliability coefficient of 0.82. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses tested using z-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that male and female teachers agreed to the technical and personnel preparedness items for the implementation of entrepreneurship education. The study concluded that, technical preparedness such as hardware, software, internet facilities etc. and personnel preparedness such as teacher training, administrative support, mentorship programmes etc. are very important and needed for implementation of entrepreneurship education in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. Consequently, it was recommended that, teachers should be properly trained so as to acquire skills needed for entrepreneurship education.
