Abstract

The study examined teachers research and capacity building practices management as a correlate of teacher productivity in public Senior Secondary Schools in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Two (2) research question and 2 hypotheses guided the study. The design for the study was correlational, population as the 196 public senior secondary schools in Bayelsa State and sample as 400 teachers selected using the strategic random sampling techniques with Taro Yamene minimum sample formula. Respondent on the study responded to 2 set of instruments. These were the 14 – item Teachers Research and Capacity Building Practice Management Scale (TRCBPMS) and 22 – item Teachers Productivity Scale (TPS), designed by the researcher in the 4-point Likert scale model with reliability indices of 0.73 and 0.90 respectively and obtained using Cronbach Alpha statistical procedure. Simple regression was used in answering the research question while t-test associated with simple regression was used in texting the hypotheses at 0.05 level of statistical significance. The results of the study shows that teachers research and capacity building practices management predict teacher’s productivity in public senior secondary schools in Bayelsa State to a very high extent and also established significant predictions of teacher’s research and capacity building practice management on teacher productivity in public senior secondary schools in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Based on these findings, the study concluded that teacher’s research and capacity building practices management is inevitable for the assurance of teacher productivity in public secondary schools. Consequently, the study recommended that school leaders should continue to ensure effective management of teacher’s research and capacity building practice in order to be assured of their productivity in the school system.
